SEAT, S.A., Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo) is a Spanish automobile manufacturer with its head office in Martorell, Spain. It was founded on May 9, 1950, by the Instituto Nacional de Industria (INI), a state-owned industrial holding company.

It is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of the German Volkswagen Group, as a member of the now-defunct Audi Brand Group (2002–2007), together with Audi andLamborghini, and marketed as a car maker with a youthful sporty profile. Within the Volkswagen Group and under the Audi Brand Group, the SEAT brand itself has been developed as a group with subsidiary companies (SEAT Group) and 'SEAT, S.A.' as the parent company.

The headquarters of SEAT, S.A. is located at SEAT's industrial complex in Martorell near Barcelona, Spain. By 2000 annual production peaked at over 500,000 units; in total up to 2006, over 16 million cars have been produced including more than 6 million from the Martorell plant, with three-quarters of the annual production being exported to over seventy countries worldwide.

It’s the latest stripped out racer and evolution of the Seat Leon WTCC car, the forefather and seed that helps grow the ultra-competitive, relatively low-cost TCR racing series.

The TCR format was based on the old Seat Leon race cars that proved to be very popular and competitive as a single-make series. Being based on Volkswagen Group’s venerated MQB architecture, Cupra now builds all the VW-based cars (the Audi RS3 LMS TCR and Golf GTI TCR) at its factory just outside Barcelona. Having been involved since before the TCR championship's debut season in 2015, means that it’s made an incredibly reliable and cost-effective race car.

The car arrives at the factory as a standard Leon but is quickly stripped down to the shell and modified for safety. The transmission tunnel is hammered in to make sure the driver is more central in the car to protect against side impacts and a hefty roll-cage is welded in. Outside, a new aero package is fitted that includes a series standardised carbon fibre front splitter (one of only a few carbon parts), rear ‘grasshopper’ spoiler (for more downforce), huge plank-like side skirts and an aggressive front end with added cooling. Thanks to fully adjustable suspension, it sits a lot lower and lightweight wheels wrapped in slicks fill the swollen arches.

The Seat Leon is a 5 door hatchback built by Seat, based off the VW Golf V. In 2005 Seat Sport, in partnership with Oreca, entered the new second generation Leon (Replacing the Toledo Cupra) in the World Touring Car Championship, mostly using the diesel TDI's but there were also some petrol TFSI's entered by Seat Sport UK. In 2008 Yvan Muller won the World Touring Car Championship in a TDI Seat Sport Leon and also won Seat the manufacturer's title. The WTCC Leon TDI was powered by the 2.0 TDI engine from the standard Leon, tuned to produce 265HP.
